Dr Annalien Steyn is an Ophthalmologist in private practice in Johannesburg. Her consulting rooms are at the West Rand Eye Centre and she has surgical privileges at the Johannesburg Eye Hospital.

She has extensive experience in the treatment of a wide range of eye conditions, with a special interest in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, squint surgery and paediatric ophthalmology.

Dr Steyn achieved her MBChB degree Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria. She completed her training in Ophthalmology, working first in Gauteng, and then in Cape Town, at the world-renowned Groote Schuur and Red Cross War Memorial Hospitals.

She was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa and was awarded the Justin Van Selm medal as the top qualifying Ophthalmology board candidate in the country. She also completed her Master’s degree through the University of Cape Town, which she achieved with distinction. Her research was published in the Journal of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Dr Steyn has a great passion for her patients. She prides herself in individualizing eye care in order to get the best possible visual outcomes for her patients. She follows all the latest research and techniques in order to provide a service of excellence to her patients.

Dr Steyn is also an avid musician and runner.
